What's your Digital Footprint ? #mdfp

Image
Knowing that your or my digital footprint is what I say about myself, what others say about me and it is how we react to our content within the community. However, digital footprint data is also about information that electronic devices automatically add to content, location, attention, how I reached something, who sent me the content, who I send it on to. Also read this post  http://blog.mydigitalfootprint.com/when-you-cross-this-line-updated-definition-o   Therefore I am considering using this model/diagram to help explain My Digital Footprint, Your Digital Footprint and what digital footprints are about.   Love any feedback to make this a simple model.   On it's own your digital footprint has little value - yes it provides a representation (if open, honest and transparent) of the physical you, therefore can link to reputation and identity. However, you trade yourself and your data in the exchange for free web services (search, email etc). Knowing how t...

Solving the Greenpeace and Facebook common problem #mdfp

Image
Thinking further about the Greenpeace cloud paper  where their emphasis is on the type of electricity production that powers the cloud. In my view they should open up another attack angle that will have a different effect.  They rightfully acknowledge that efficiency gains from technology advancement will reduce energy requirement but I don't think they look at what is possible with a bit of old fashion price/demand theory. I agree that one prime focus of attack should be the move to sustainable energy and away from coal/gas, however, I would argue that an equally important focus should be on straight forward reduction.  But how do you encourage less use of a free cloud service.  Every new consumer of cloud applications or new user adds new demands for computing, storage and power, every active existing user also increases demands and all in-active users, have an energy consumption that remains a constant bleed on the system.  The area where I think there is some thought ...

Mobile Developer Survey

Image
Andreas Constantinou (whom I know well and have worked with) is at VisionMobile and wants your input on his Mobile Developer Survey, sponsored by O2 Litmus. Have your say at http://www.visionmobile.com/developers on the future of mobile app development and see what everyone else in the community is saying. Incentive is prizes, including: a Nexus One smartphone, an HTC Touch 2 and two massive Amazon vouchers (worth 500 and 250 Euros). Survey closes April 16 and results become publicly available in Q2. Participants will receive a summary. They have also published the Mobile Industry Atlas which is a visual who’s who of the mobile ecosystem. The Atlas provides an unparalleled view of the entire span of 1,100+ leading companies in the mobile industry, neatly arranged into distinct categories so you can easily browse through them. The Atlas is available from 95 GBP incl. Download a sample at www.visionmobile.com/research.php

Rise of the machines - 4th May, 6-9pm, London

Internet of Things (IoT) is the combining of the physical and virtual worlds to drive improvements and benefits.  It is time to focus on why IoT is emerging (again). IoT is, in its simplistic form, tiny sensors that are being embedded into physical things which are connected (wireless or wired) to create benefit from process change or data analysis.  Underlying the IoT are technologies such as NFC, sensors, and smartphones.  IoT focuses on either services that collect data and analyse the data and the output is information or services that collect data but also close the loop and affect the physical world. So what has changed since the ITU report on IoT in 2005 and why has it become trendy again? The emergence of new research, Smart Grids, cost advantage, data analysis, device proliferation and the fact that yesterdays science fantasy is now possible, make IoT hot.   The best or worst example of the IoT benefit is the colloquial Internet fridge that monit...
